The productivity trap
If you want better results, focus on doing less of the right things instead of doing more of the wrong things.
We are obsessed with productivity (doing more) when, in fact, what we should be promoting is prioritization (doing less).
Why?
When a business owner tells me that they agree that they should define the company's strategy but that they "need to solve some minor issues before getting down to it," I always answer the same thing: "Think about it: how long can a big target wait for you to solve these minor issues? The highest cost in a company is opportunity cost: what results are you not getting right now while you wait to solve these minor issues?"
Food for thought. How do we measure the productivity of an article like this one? By the number of words per second or by the number of ideas per second?
If it's the former, you'll find it short, but if it's the latter, you'll find it valuable, won't you?
If you want better results, focus on doing less of the right things instead of doing more of the wrong things.
