How to break a managerial block
Have you ever been blocked and frustrated because you didn’t do the right thing?
I've been writing weekly for over ten years, and sometimes it has been challenging. Sometimes, you go through stages where creative block and procrastination rule your behaviour and you don't know how to break it. In my case, I break these periods by writing more, from the heart and without the intention of promoting what I write. In short, I follow three principles:
- I write daily rather than weekly because I have found that action leads to motivation, not the other way around;
- I write what comes from inside me and do not filter, so I make the process easier by not looking for the best way to say things; and
- I write for writing, not to gain visibility (for example), taking the pressure off myself about the length or quality of my writing.
As an entrepreneur, you may be blocked by a major decision, such as launching a new product line or firing a troublesome employee.
I know that blocking is frustrating, and you always think you'll do better tomorrow, but it's not true:
- Don't wait until you're motivated to get started.
- Follow your instinct.
- Focus on what needs to be done.
